Vintage Carved Wood Relief Panel With Hand Motif, Circa 1950s
Vintage Carved Wood Relief Panel With Hand Motif, Circa 1950s. Large-scale plywood relief panel with applied carved surface motifs. Likely created as a plaster mold (as evidenced by the residual chalky substance within the recessed areas) for fraternal or religious purposes. A commanding work, the central carved hand is centered within a pronounced circle, directional points and fluted, perpendicular bands; amplified by an arched band of clouds below. The imagery evokes a sense of guidance and finding oneself. Artist unknown.
Presented as part of our “Nameless Art + Design” Show collection, January 2025.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Small areas of surface abrasion and very small losses to plywood surface near drilled corner holes (as pictured).
