Vintage Framed Oil on Board Portrait by Leon Dusso, Circa 1950s
Vintage Framed Oil on Board Portrait by Leon Dusso, Circa 1950s. Modernist figurative oil painting on masonite set within a shadow box wood frame. The mask-like portrait centers on a seemingly melancholic figure with long wavy hair and deep, void eyes. Rendered in a controlled palette of warm hues offset with heavy, black strokes and washed, blue greens. The craquelure and worn frame adds to the mysterious state of the work. Signed "Dusso" in the lower right side.
Leon Dusso (born D'usseau), the son of a Paramount Pictures Art Director from Los Angeles who studied under Alexander Archipenko and Merrell Gage. Dusso was an American modernist artist focusing on figurative works across mediums with heavy Mayan/Incan influences.
