Hand-Painted Corn Husk Seated Man With Carved Wood Peg Leg, Circa 1940s
Hand-Painted Corn Husk Seated Man With Carved Wood Peg Leg, Circa 1940s. This atypical corn husk figure is detailed down to its individual fingers, suspenders and carved peg leg. The surface of this figure is completely hand-painted. A shaker-style chair was constructed to support this figure with a wood splint seat. Twice signed “Faith Hilton” on fabric medical tape (back of chair, and underside of chair). It’s possible this could have been created by someone in an institution or hospital.
Presented as part of our “Nameless Art + Design” Show collection, January 2024.
Condition: Great vintage condition considering age and construction material. Condition details are highlighted in images. There are missing fingers, small breaks in the body material, and small breaks / missing sections in the wood splint seat. Retains original signature on medical tape (back and underside of chair).
