Antique Rare Hand-Carved Portrait Walking Stick with "Filipino" Script, Circa 1910s-1920s
Antique Rare Hand-Carved Portrait Walking Stick with "Filipino" Script, Circa 1910s-1920s. This expertly carved walking stick form incorporates a three-dimensional portrait, likely the original owner of this piece, held within the mouth of a dog. The dog could be viewed as a symbol of protection. The carved eyes on both the figure and dog are painted a deep blue. Both, the gentleman and dog’s heads are finely detailed down to the man’s coifed hairstyle, and the dogs rippling jaws. “FILIPINO” is boldly carved into the very front of the cane, demonstrating pride in the owner’s heritage. The shaft of the cane is carved to resemble bamboo. Unsigned.
