The duck form was positioned as if mid-preening, by Hank Walker, a well-known decoy carver who was based in Newbury, Massachusetts. The family business continues today under the leadership of his son, Geoff Walker. This small bird is carved from a single strip of wood, with all details rendered with pyrography. Mounted on a thin stick atop an unfinished teak base. Circa 1985. Signed on the underside of the base “H. W. 85”
The small Folk Art Chickadee was likely created 50 years prior. The naive carving is rendered in pine, with a fully painted surface and minimal detailing. Mounted on 2 painted wire legs and a finished pine disc base. Unsigned.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition, light surface finish variation.
