Vintage Ka Kwong Hui Wheel Thrown Pottery Bottle Vase with Drip Glaze, Circa 1950s / 60s. A very rare find, Hui was a Chinese-American artist best known for his 1960s work in collaboration with Pop Art artist Roy Lichtenstein. This piece pre-dates that work and is possibly from his time as an instructor at the Brooklyn Museum. Red clay base in a bottle form, this piece was then glazed in a multi-color drip glaze. Tan base glaze with streaks of blues, reds, and greens. Signed on the underside “Hui K. K.” with remnants of a tape label as well (as seen in others of this style from this period).

Hui immigrated to America from China in 1948, studied at Alfred University, and went on to be an influential teacher in New Jersey and at the Brooklyn Museum. In 1964 he began a collaboration with Roy Lichtenstein on a series of sculptures.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition with very minimal surface wear. One tiny chip on underside of vase where a glaze drip terminates (likely from original production of the piece to smooth the underside surface)

Size Me Up: 12 1/2” Height x 4 7/8” Base Diameter x 7 1/2” Body Diameter (at Widest) x 2 1/4” Top Opening Diameter
