Vintage Paolo Soleri Carved Pottery Hanging Vessel with Fish Motif, Circa 1970s
Vintage Paolo Soleri Carved Pottery Hanging Vessel with Fish Motif, Circa 1970s. This early hanging pottery form was produced at Soleri’s famed Arizona workshop, Arcosanti. The surface is designed with a grouping of fish carved into the body, the eyes pierce through to the interior. Left unglazed, with natural yellow coloration largely present on one side, a product of the firing process. Three brass chains connect to s-hook hardware that pierce directly through the top edge of the body. Hand signed. A central hole in the base makes this piece perfect as a planter or for dried florals.
Paolo Soleri was an Italian architect. He established the educational Cosanti Foundation and Arcosanti, an "urban laboratory" (so-dubbed by Ada Louise Huxtable, who at the time was the architectural critic of The NY Times) which became internationally renowned in Arizona.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Natural surface variation present from production of the piece. No flaws to note.
