Vintage Jane + Gordon Martz for Marshall Studios Walnut Bookends with Glazed Pottery Tile Insets, A Pair, Circa 1950s. Designed by Jane & Gordon Martz for Marshall Studios in the 50s. A variation on this design (TBEI-1) can be first seen in the April 1957 Stoneware Catalog No. 8 for Marshall Studios, Inc (images in listing) as well as multiple later catalogs. The 15 square glazed tiles set within each rectangular walnut body feature an olive ground with incised striations. The backside of each is padded in green velvet for extra protection, and the base is constructed from brass sheet. Unlabeled.
CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition. Minimal surface wear and finish variation, as photographed, commensurate with age and use. No chips or losses to tile insets. The brass bases show appropriate wear and finish variation, and the velvet lining on the underside of the brass has been replaced to protect surfaces. The velvet backing on each is in great condition, aside from color fading as detailed in images.
