Vintage Folk Art Representational Chief Abenakis Portrait, Circa 1940s. Representational painted portrait of a sitting chief of the Abenakis, a First Nations tribe residing along Northeastern North America. Naively rendered on board with the subject in profile with a cast shadow, dressed in full ceremonial regalia. Gold painted accents are added to emphasize the chief’s status. The piece is boldly titled in the lower left side of the piece. Signed, “Merdy” in the lower right.
Condition: Great vintage condition, wear commensurate with age and use. Surface variation present with light losses to the painted surface (as pictured).
