Rare Vintage Teak + Cane Back Three-Seater Sofa by Peter Hvidt + Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen for France + Daverkosen, Retailed by John Stuart Inc., Circa 1950s. Full teak, sculpted body with handwoven herringbone cane seat back. Support for the seat employs Danish rubber loop coils on the base.Branded with the John Stuart enameled tag and France and Daverkosen stamp on the frame. Likely a rare model produced for display at the John Stuart showroom in New York or re-caned very early in life.
Fitted with newly created seat cushions with removable cotton/poly blend covers.
CONDITION: Great vintage condition, recently restored and braced for stability on the base with hidden screws attaching the rear of the seat frame to the backrest. One elastic band replaced. Shows signs of wear to the frame with light scuffs to the teak and light losses to the cane, mainly concentrated to the backside of the seat back (as pictured). Does not affect stability or appeal of the piece.
