Vintage Folk Art Hand-Painted Folding Chess Table, Circa 1940s
Vintage Folk Art Hand-Painted Folding Chess Table, Circa 1940s. An excellent example of functional folk art. The artist likely took an existing table and expertly converted the wooden frame into a one-of-a-kind portable chess table. The original green body was painted cream before applying a graphic, red and black painted chess board in the center. Other custom elements include chess pieces illustrated around the board and along the edge of the tabletop. Unsigned. Folds flat (as detailed in photos) for easy storage and portability.
