Antique Hand-Carved Pine American Eagle, Circa 1st Half 19th Century
Antique Hand-Carved Pine American Eagle, Circa 1st Half 19th Century
Antique Hand-Carved Pine American Eagle, Circa 1st Half 19th Century. In the style of works by John Haley Bellamy, this dramatic eagle form is expertly carved, detailed down to the facial features and feathers on the body and wings. The piece retains its original dark surface finish with areas of exposed forged nails present. It’s possible this was a architectural element or was affixed to a larger carved wood banner, similar to work by Bellamy. Unsigned.
Presented as part of our “Nameless Art + Design” Show collection, January 2024.
Condition: Great antique condition considering age and use. Very small areas of loss and abrasion along the tips of the wings, talons and head. There looks to have been a old repair across the top of the head, where a small split is faintly visible.
