Vintage Balinese dance mask of Rangda, the demon queen of the leyaks in Balinese mythology. Hand-carved wooden mask, hand-painted with shades of red, black, gold + cool-grey. Features distinct facial qualities of Rangda with protruding fangs, intense bulging eyes + an elongated cloth tongue with gold-leafed paper medallions.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. Slight breaks to lower portion on upper-left fang + spike on crown. Losses and variations to paint reflect hand-made qualities. Upper fangs are slightly loose.
