Antique Small-Scale Japanese Meiji Period Haribako Tansu Chest, Late 19th Century
Antique Small-Scale Japanese Meiji Period Haribako Tansu Chest, Circa Late 19th Century. Haribako: a traditional Japanese wooden piece of furniture for sewing tools, writing materials, and more. This piece features 3 drawers accented with curved wrought iron handles. Each drawer graduates in size, perfect for storage of small items. Gorgeous natural surface patina, softened from years of use. The construction of this piece is quite interesting, as there was no use of metal nails. Small wood dowels are used to construct the body and drawers. Unbranded, but the underside of the box retains very faint characters written in ink.
Condition: Excellent antique condition commensurate with age and use. Small areas of abrasion and scratching. A couple small areas of panel separation, where wood dowels have come loose (does not affect the overall strength or function).
