Vintage "Tomorrow's Man" Male Physique Beefcake Magazine, Circa 1957
Vintage "Tomorrow's Man" Male Physique Beefcake Magazine, January 1957. Quite rare to find in this condition. The graphic cover design features a red and white spiraling backdrop behind a male model wearing only a posing strap. The headline reads, “How virile are you?” .35 cents when originally purchased and a rare find today in its condition. Produced by Irv Johnson following Bob Mizer’s “Physique Pictorial,” the magazine was geared towards the younger male demographic. Articles focused on exercise, body-building, nutrition and supplements aimed at perfecting the male physique.
Beefcake magazines presented as dedicated to fitness, health, and bodybuilding. However, their unstated primary purpose was erotic imagery, for gay and bisexual men and straight women, skirting mid-20th-century censorship laws which prohibited depiction of full nudity, and cultural taboos against homosexuality.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition, minimal wear to the cover edges (as pictured)
