Vintage Folk Art Steel Side Table with Orb Details, Circa 1950s
Vintage Folk Art Steel Side Table with Orb Details, Circa 1950s. Constructed from heavyweight, likely industrial-grade steel plate, this table is a true masterpiece. Sleek lines and perfect proportions offer a delicate, cephalopod-like appearance. This form is designed around a central cruciform body with legs that softly splay, terminating in steel orb feet. The structure features a circular steel plate tabletop encircled with orbs and two lower shelves. The beautifully patinated surface shows varying levels of original paint. The base is left largely unpainted with a craquelure-like verdigris top. The previous owner acquired these while living in Texas. One iteration series from a series of three tables, each available with a unique design / construction variation. Unsigned.
Presented as part of our “Nameless Art + Design” Show collection, January 2024.
Condition: Great vintage condition, surface shows varying signs of wear and surface variation commensurate with age and use. Stabilized with a welded steel foot to one of the lower orbs which cracked earlier in life. Repaired locally in Brooklyn, NY.
Specs: 26 1/2” H | 9 1/2” Surface diameter | 18 1/4” Width at base | 20” D at base
