Rare Zandra Rhodes "Buttons and Bows" Hand-painted + Beaded Silk Dress from the "India Revisited" Collection, Circa 1985. A stunning rendition of Zandra’s “Buttons and Bows” print rendered on a violet tissue-ply silk chiffon. The motif is hand-painted with fuchsia and copper bows, lightly accented with mini fuchsia squares throughout. The draped tulip sleeves are capped with delicate ruffles and trimmed with iridescent fuchsia beads. The bodice offers a window of skin beneath the layer of chiffon, softy falling about the waist. The softly gathered skirt sits below a trapunto sash-style belt with the bow motif and beads cascading down the center-front. Likely produced as a special run for Henri Bendel’s Fancy line as designers often modified their looks to fit the the retailer’s merchandising needs. Fully lined with a keyhole closure at the back. The skirt closes with a zipper, the belt snaps closed at the back with loop knots. Includes original “Zandra Rhodes” and “Henri Bendel Fancy” labels on the interior back panels. Executed flawlessly with hand-rolled hems and meticulous construction. A rare find.

Zandra has stated the “India Revisited” collection is one of her favorite bodies of work. Princess Diana was also a big fan of this collection, owning and having been photographed in a few pieces.

Condition: Great vintage condition, shows signs of wear due to to the delicate nature of the fabric. Small abrasions to silk, with light color variation around the shoulders and right hip. A few beads missing throughout. Does not affect stability or detract from the appeal.
